Super Sexy Razor Happy Girl Mika Handa

Biography:

Keiichi Suzuki (鈴木慶一)

Keiichi Suzuki has enjoyed a long and celebrated career in music, making his mark not only in his native Japan but on the global stage as well.

Suzuki formed the band The Moonriders in 1975 with members of Hachimitsu Pie, alongside other musicians including his younger brother, Hirobumi Suzuki. Ever since their debut in 1976 with the album ‘Hinotama Boy’ (‘Fireball Boy’), The Moonriders have continued to release works that were always a half step ahead of their time. The band are nearing their 30th anniversary.

Alongside his activities as a member of The Moonriders, Suzuki has from the mid-’70s composed numerous songs for performers of every genre, from teen idols to enka (Japanese blues) singers, together with countless commercial jingles, sowing a huge influence on the Japanese music scene and lovers of music. His soundtracks for the 1989 Nintendo videogame ‘Mother’ (‘EarthBound Zero’) and its 1994 sequel, ‘Mother 2’ (‘EarthBound’), have continued to win enthusiastic support from a great number of fans years after their release; the soundtracks were remastered and rereleased in 2003.

In addition to his solo career, Suzuki also has released albums in collaboration with other artists, including The Beatniks, a unit formed with YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra) member Yukihiro Takahashi, and The Suzuki, a unit with Hirobumi.

In 1994, ‘Satellite Serenade’, a track from his solo album ‘Suzuki White Report’, was remixed by Alex Paterson of The Orb and climbed to No. 8 on the indie chart of British magazine Melody Maker. The music he composed in 1995 for Sega Saturn videogame ‘Real Sound’ was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London with musicians including ex-XTC guitarist David Gregory.

Suzuki's wide-ranging activities outside of music include appearances in TV dramas and contributions to magazines. In 2002, he started his own label – Run, Rabbit, Run Records – where he continues to play a leading role, and released CD ‘Three Blind Moses’. His music for the movie ‘Zatoichi’ (directed by Takeshi Kitano) won him the Best Music Award in the 2003 Japan Academy Awards.

TIME OF EVE

IBU NO JIKAN GEKIJOBAN

Sat. 24/09, 21:30, LantarenVenster / Rotterdam

Time of Eve [Movie still]

In this futuristic anime, robots have long been in practical use, and androids have just come into use. Influenced by the Robot Ethics Committee, public mores dictate that androids be treated like household appliances although some people empathize unnecessarily with them. Known as "android-holics," these people have become a social problem. One day high-school student Rikuo discovers some strange data in the behavior records of Sammy, his family's household android. Rikuo and his friend Masaki trace Sammy's movements, only to discover the Time of Eve, a mysterious café with a peculiar house rule: "humans and robots are to be treated the same" ...

Otherworldly: Optical Delusions and Small Realities

Virtual reality has been a powerful factor in shaping our social and artistic environment since the 1970s. Today, innovations in digital technology have completely transformed film, video, and television: extraordinary special effects and three-dimensional imaging created using computer-based software are commonplace. However, while the digital world continues to expand into more and more areas of our lives, a profound human need to re-experience the actual and tangible has also arisen. It is not a coincidence that as individuals spend more and more time looking at a monitor interacting with others in cyberspace, the pleasures in making things by hand, engaging with materials and techniques in a direct fashion, also increase.
